At Garn Farm: Spring is here!… we’ve enjoyed the snow but everything on the hillside is now ready to spring into life! We look forward to welcoming many of you to stay and enjoy the borderlands in the coming warmer months. You’ll find we’ve been clearing lots in the woodland, and as a result the bluebells should be great this year.
We’ve added new paths for you to wander in the woods, and despite being firm believers in the power of good conversation over the dishes we’ve added a dishwasher to make your stay in The Barn even more relaxing! Check out the latest availability for an escape to the hills where you can roam freely, breathe easy and think clearly.
New Wild Guide… We were excited to see the new Wild Guide to Wales (it covers the borderlands, Black Mountains, Golden Valley and Wye as well!), and then delighted to find we were included in it! It’s the best guide to our area we’ve seen, packed full of walks, swims, adventures, and fantastic places to eat and stay!
Piano Day… Its nearly here, the annual worldwide day that celebrates the piano. It takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2018 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated.
Dawn Chorus… International Dawn Chorus Day is the worldwide celebration of nature’s symphony. Celebrated on the first Sunday of May, this year it’s Sunday 6th May. Head out early before dawn, get comfortable, and enjoy the natural world coming to life. Simple… but perhaps the most amazing alarm call you’ll have this year. We’ll be in the woods here, heck we may even camp out!
Smashing a world record… Kiko Matthews grew-up nearby and her parents live in Longtown and teach the children singing. She hit the headlines this week having smashed the world record for the fastest transatlantic crossing by a female rower… amazing enough, but when you know she did it after being diagnosed with Cushing’s disease in 2009 and having a 2nd tumour removed just last year… it’s a truly inspirational story!
